Very often the thought of starting an e-commerce business is hampered because of the up-front costs involved, and the problem of storing masses of merchandise.

Let’s explore drop shipping as a possible work around.

Just what is drop shipping?

To have something drop shipped means that it is being sent to the customer straight from the supplier in you behalf.

The customer’s order is placed with the drop shipping supplier by the seller after they receive payment for the buyer.

The customer receives the order from the drop shipper, but it will have the return address of the seller.

The merchant never has to handle the product.

The biggest benefit to the seller is time saved by the packaging and shipping being done for them.

Are you ready to start an online business?

There are a couple of things you need to do.

Firstly, you will need a drop shipping supplier that handles the products you want to sell. The Internet is your best resource. In your search engine search bar type the product name plus drop shipper. You could also type in wholesale directories. You wont have problems developing a list to choose from. There are a couple of things to look for in your new supplier.

The drop shipping service wont be free, but if there are monthly fees make sure that they are minimal. A supplier may ask that you fund an account up front, most will let you pay as you place orders.

Be careful the Internet is full of fraudulent drop shippers that will simply steal your money You may consider using a reputable online directory such a World Wide Brands, or check a wholesaler out for your self with The Better Business Bureau

Now that you have access to so many products, take full advantage and list them all on your site. The search engines love very specific pages with plenty of content, and pictures, avoid the temptation to group too many items on the same page.

Now you have an e-store set up, with very little investment.

When you make a sale, you simply place the order with the drop shipper.

What you will find most of the time is that your chosen vendor will have a store similar to your own, you only need to place your customers order.

A few e commerce tips:

1) The real money in this business come from repeat sales to the list you develop, so keep the prices as low as you can and get those names!

2) The drop shipper you choose may offer you a premade e-store, resist this temptation because the content will be duplicated across the web giving you no advantage with the search engines.

3) Get yourself an 800 number. No need for a service or have anyone answer the phone, it’s just that it puts people at ease to see it.

4) If you do a web search for trust seals you will find plenty, adding one or two to your store will help with conversions.

5) I can’t emphasis enough how valuable the list of customer, don’t be afraid to sell to your list.

It’s surprisingly easy to kill your eBay business, if you’re not careful – sure, you can start over from scratch without it costing you anything, but do you really want to? Still, if you want your business to end up dead in the water, here are some simple ways to do it.Lie about an item: Say it works fine when it sometimes doesn’t work. Say it’s in perfect condition when it has a scratch. Your customers will hate you!

A dissatisfied customer will leave negative feedback, and negative feedback is to be avoided at all costs. That one piece of negative feedback will always cost you more than it would have to deal with the complaint, whatever the value of the items you sell. You should consider any positive feedback percentage under 100% to be an absolute disaster, and a personal failure on your part.

In fact, a bad reputation will lose you almost all your sales. If someone leaves you negative feedback, you will feel the pain straight away, as that rating will go right at the top of your user page for everyone to see. Who’s going to want to do business with you when they’ve just read that you “took a month to deliver the item”, or that you had “bad communication and sent a damaged item”? The answer is no-one.

But nothing! There is no situation where you, as a seller, should get into any dispute with a buyer. Here are a few common situations and how to handle them.

They say the item never arrived: Politely ask the buyer to wait a few more days to see if it turns up, and then email you again if it still hasn’t arrived. If it still hasn’t arrived, you should assume it was lost in the post somehow and offer to send a replacement if you have one, or give them a full refund otherwise. No, I don’t care what that costs you. Are you serious about selling on eBay or not?

Make your listings ugly: As many colours, flashing lights and animations as possible will really give those customers a headache. Write as much in CAPITALS!!!! as you can. Preferably big, red capitals. Be sure to use the fonts Impact and Comic Sans. For an extra special touch, see if you can figure out a way to add some music.

Don’t take photos: It’s such trouble, after all. If buyers are picky enough to actually want to see items before they bid on them, then screw ‘em, that’s what I say.

When a PowerSeller tells me something, I tend to believe them. They can be selling a pretty unlikely item, but if they guarantee it is what they say it is, then I trust them – they’re not going to risk their reputation, after all. This is the power of a reputation: people know you want to keep it, and they know you’ll go to almost any lengths to do so.

This is true even to the point that I would sooner buy something for $20 from a seller I know I can trust than for $15 from someone with average feedback. It’s worth the extra money to feel like the seller knows what they’re doing, has all their systems in place and will get me the item quickly and efficiently.

You really will find selling on eBay so much easier, and there’s only way to get a good reputation: make sure you please your customers every time. But some customers can be, well, just a little difficult to please. In the next email, we ask: is the eBay customer always right?

eBay classified ads make up less than 1 percent of all listings on eBay. These classified ads show up alongside regular auctions and get just as much exposure as a regular auction except classified ads have a one-time fee, no final value fee, and runs for a minimum of 30 days.

In fact, if you still want to continue selling eBooks on eBay, it’s the only format in which you can still sell eBooks. But eBay classified ads are still very much under the radar and not utilized to their fullest potential.

The 2 best uses of eBay classified ads for internet marketers are list building and/or affiliate marketing. However, the rules of what can be placed in a classified ad are very vague, but you can still have things in a classified ad that you can’t have in listings that use other formats.

For instance, you can place links from websites outside of eBay with the item you have for sale, you can have an opt-in box in your ad to build your list, and often you can get away with having your email address in a classified ad.

As with everything on eBay, this too will be a numbers game. Obviously the more views your ad gets, the more opt-ins and/or sales you will make.

So the most important part of your classified ad will be your title. If people aren’t searching for the keywords that are in your title, chances are people aren’t going to find your ad or not many people anyway.

          ]]>

Another thing to consider with your title is how popular the keywords are in your title are; meaning are there a large number of people searching for that keyword or a small number. A way to find out what the popular keywords are on eBay is to check out eBay pulse.

eBay pulse tells you what the most popular searches are on eBay. But something I like even better than eBay pulse is the site at auctioncloud.com. Although it’s not as up-to-date as eBay pulse this site goes into more detail about the most popular search terms on eBay.

With eBay classified ads the number of people viewing your ads is very important so using information from eBay pulse and ‘Auction Cloud’ can give you ideas of what you need to have in your title.

But to be certain about how many people could be potentially viewing your ad you should check out a few completed listings with the keyword(s) in the title. A lot of the completed listings will be 7-day auctions but by checking out how many views a few of those completed auctions get and multiplying that view count by 4 (4 weeks in a month; ads are 30 days) you get a rough idea of how many views your ad will get.

Ideally you want your eBay ad to get a few hundred views in a month’s time but a eBay ad can still be successful even if it doesn’t get a whole lot of views in the course of a month.

Real life example:

A guy named Warren decided to promote the ClickBank product ‘Fat Loss 4 Idiots’ using an eBay classified ad with 5 tips on “maximizing your weight loss goals” and an opt-in box that offered a FREE 2-week diet diary with tips if you signed up. The following are his results with the ad:

- 29 people opted in
- 6 sales

Total commissions earned: $207.18

A 30-day ad costs $9.95 not including extras like subtitle, bold, border, etc. There are 60-day, 90-day, and 180-day eBay ads but its recommended you test your results with 30-day ads first.

Also, something that gives you a competitive edge with your eBay ad is when you can find keywords to put in the title of your eBay ad that gets a lot of searches, thus possibly getting you a lot of views, but keywords in which there are not many results for, anything with less than 100 results is great.

In conclusion, eBay classified ads are a great way for internet marketers to build their list(s) and promote affiliate products but before doing that do a little bit of research and then try using an eBay classified ad.

Are you considering starting your own eBay business? With all of the sales pitches that you’ve heard about getting rich fast the easy way on eBay, how do you not get fooled? If it was so easy to get rich quick, everyone would be a successful seller on eBay and making loads of money. In the real world of selling online, it is challenging and extremely competitive because buyers having so many options to choose from. Sellers on eBay have used several business models to run their businesses successfully. When choosing an eBay business model, keep these points in mind.

What’s your business? Keeping in mind the kind of business that you want to do, there are several models. Most sellers on eBay follow the business models of drop shipping, wholesale-retail, liquidation/thrift loss/surplus, local goods and crafts, hobby and specialty, and brick and mortar. Each of these business models has their advantages and disadvantages.

Drop shipping: Drop shipping involves you acting as an eBay salesperson for another company. You need not keep inventories, nor pay for shipping. However, you do need to post listings of products, handle customers, and collect money. If the buyer wishes to purchase a product, he or she will pay you. You then place the other with the company at a cost, which is a bit lower than what the buyer has paid you. The company in turn ships the goods to the buyer directly. Most sellers face the problem of low profitability as they need to pay eBay fees. Besides, there is a lot of competition among sellers in drop shipping. Furthermore, the next time a buyer wants to purchase goods, he or she will directly buy them from the company. So, your chances of running such a business with success are quite low.

Wholesale-retail:This model involves you selling goods of your choice. You contact suppliers for goods, stock your inventory with items that you purchased at wholesale prices from the suppliers and sell them on eBay. One major problem is finding space to stock up inventory. The second is that you need capital to invest in purchasing goods from the supplier, as well as managing various business tasks, such as licensing, bookkeeping, among others. You run the risk of an unsuccessful business if your goods do not sell. However, if you have experience in the retail business, eBay is ideal for high profitability. Liquidation/thrift loss/surplus: Like the wholesale-retail model, you purchase goods at a wholesale price and then sell them to eBay shoppers. The difference is that now you sell items that are rare, such as items that have been discontinued from the market. The problem is selling the potentially unsellable. However, since your goods are unique and not easily available elsewhere, you have a greater chance of having a successful business.

          ]]>

Local goods and crafts: Selling unique products, services, crafts and goods from your personal contacts or local region on eBay can be challenging. You need not keep inventory, but you will have to search for interesting products to sell online. There is much potential for this business to run successfully if you have the right contacts and if you know that there is a market for these kinds of goods.

Hobby and specialty: Selling products that you enjoy making as a pastime, or selling stamps, baseball cards that you have collected over time can be quite lucrative, if you have the knowledge of what you are selling, to whom you are selling-your target audience and if there is a demand for it in the market.

Brick and mortar: If you have a “real” store, eBay becomes the next best option for selling—an online store that can provide lucrative profits. This is where you can sell items that don’t sell in the real store. The biggest problem is managing labor and inventory, bookkeeping, among others. Customers who purchase online expect quicker service.

Know your market: Once you have decided on the type of business model that you want to engage in on eBay, you need to know your market.

Research: Study the product that you are selling, and research listings from accomplished sellers that sell similar products to yours. Understand the features that they are highlighting.

Build a good reputation: Building a good reputation takes a lot of time, but once accomplished, you just might have a successful business. Be a responsible seller. Be extremely knowledgeable about the product that is being sold in the market and what is available at your eBay business center. Create a blog where you can post information and your opinion about the product. Make contributions to discussion boards that have relevance to your market. Once you have established a name for yourself, you will find numerous online buyers at your site.

Be eye-catching: One of the best ways to grab a web user’s attention is by attracting their attention. Ensure that the template that you use is consistent. This allows buyers to get used to the look of your products, layout, and navigation. Use multiple high-quality photographs and detailed descriptions of the products. Choosing good colors, attractive theme, and a catchy name for your store are also vital steps.

Have different methods of selling: Besides having auctions to sell your items, there are other ways of selling your products.

Set fixed prices: Pay a monthly or yearly fee to eBay, whichever is suitable for you to keep your online store running in order to sell your products at a fixed price. Buyers are sometimes more comfortable paying a set price rather than buying at an auction.

Give your contact information: If you give your contact information, you give buyers the choice of purchasing goods from you offline. This will increase your profit, as you do not need to give eBay a cut of the product sold.

Don’t show everything: Don’t display all your products on eBay. If you have gained the trust of a buyer, he or she is sure to ask for more products from you, even if they are not showcased. Selling offline will be profitable.

Choose relevant keywords: One of the best ways of gaining traffic to your eBay store is choosing the right keywords for your products. This allows the eBay search engine tool to show your products if a relevant keyword is used in by the potential customer.

Be professional: To gain success and the trust of your buyers, be the ultimate in professional in your business dealings.
Running head: VALUE CHAIN AND COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS

Value Chain and Competitive Analysis

By Troy Johnson

Argosy University

MSM program

Date: 07/14/10

The auction juggernaut EBay is continuing to make the world smaller with its unique communication portal. The system takes advantage of social computing technologies which helps EBay display the most relevant information. Their business model allows a 1% to 5% fee for each item sold. Over the past decade they have connected millions of buyers and sellers, but the company is not without threats. During the first quarter of 2002 they noticed a drop in revenues due to an apparent loss of confidence between buyers and sellers. To remedy this EBay created a system that enables customers to rate their sellers. This step helped to improve consumer comfort, which is a key factor in e-procurement strategies. Although more recently EBay has had to compete with free alternatives and merchant seller backlash they still have the most recognized name in internet auctions. Additionally they continue to have an advantage over the standard brick and mortar firms. “In the real world, retailers have to deal with thieves, rent payments and regulations. The virtual world has fewer obstacles to doing business.” (Lorek, 2002)

EBay dominates the auction market because of the experiential curve and significant cost of market entry. However, each year the cost to create such advanced internet technologies drops due to Moore’s law. That law states that approximately every 18 months computing storage and speed doubles. How can increased computing power damage EBay? In short the answer is craigslist.com. As computing power increases the cost to store data falls, which opens up the doorway for competition. Competition is not what scares EBay it is the paradigm shift to free that scares them. Since operating costs keep falling new web entrepreneurs have started using free as a business model looking for income through non-traditional side door sources.

Craigslist.com for example is a free online classified service that connects millions of people. Their strategy is to let people communicate free and earn money by advertising to the millions of people that visit each day. This strategy has earned craigslist nearly 100 million dollars in 2008. Craigslist is a market disruptor because it provided a free alternative to expensive newspaper classifieds effectively wiping out billions of dollars worth of newspaper advertising. Similarly Snowbirdseeker.com, a seasonal rentals by owner website, uses a hybrid business model blending free services with paid rental advertising. While EBay continues to be a viable internet auction service, they are vulnerable because they still charge as much as the market will bear rather than looking for revenue from side door sources. EBay is versatile, but remains vulnerable like the waning newspaper classified industry.

          ]]>

Crafting the right vision statement that fosters innovation may help maximize shareholder value and ensure the longevity of the firm. For instance, EBay is well known for connecting people that want unique items, so to compete with craigslist they have added a free geo targeted classified system. This system will bring millions in additional traffic and may lead to more sellers exchanging items leading to higher revenues.

Board members of EBay usually paint a rosy picture for their earnings forecasts. The reality is that competitors are multiplying and those that use free as a business model may legitimately capture market share. In order for EBay to remain on top of the internet auction industry they need to reduce the price to exchange items on their system thereby increasing the value of there value chain. The direct result of this action will be much higher traffic and brand loyalty. Traffic can be monetized using highly targeted advertisements through Google adsense or an internal advertising program. Although EBay is a successful virtual pure play company they need to ask themselves what would Google do. Google made a reported $4 billion in net income during the 2008 fiscal year simply by leveraging its search traffic domination. EBay needs to increase the value of its core competencies by lowering prices and then capitalize on the additional traffic with targeted advertising.

To further strengthen its position they should add strategic alliances as part of their diversification strategy. Acquiring companies that have similar product lines will broaden product lines and it will take advantage of existing marketing channels. EBay may find opportunities in B2B as well. “Most sales today are in used, outdated or overstocked merchandise that can be discounted. The site has become a big outlet for large corporations like Sun Microsystems and Dell that look to sell refurbished or used computer equipment.” (Lorek, 2002) forging partnerships will ensure repeat business as long as no cheaper alternative enters the market.

Another strategy EBay may use is to tap the minds and creative powers of their members. People like to talk and there are an infinite number of focus groups on EBay, so they could create a productpedia tool that enables users to post product reviews and descriptions. Similar to Wikipedia this resource would be free and would improve over time because web 2.0 technologies would allow editing and article improvement. EBay would benefit from this because they can automatically show ads that link to related products on eBay’s site leading to more sales. Additionally this tactic would be rewarded with higher page rank on Google because of the increase in website quality content. Higher page rank on Google means more traffic and more conversions.

Selling used goods on eBay can generate quite a profit if you know what to sell. There are a wide range of items that sell like hotcakes and some that don’t. As a seller on eBay, you can either put your items for sale by way of auction, or you can simply set a price on the item. Either way, the profits are huge if you’re selling the right items. Here’s a guide on what items you can consider buying or selling on eBay.

Electronics:

è Huge demand: Electronics items, like mobile phones, PDAs, and mp3 players, are small, easy to manage, and are in high demand. Because technology is constantly improving, and there is always production, there is a huge demand for those sought-after gadgets. People who have a craving for owning these items are willing to pay a hefty price for them.

è High resale value: These items have a high resale value as compared to other small items. If you are able to purchase them cheap, you are sure to make huge profits on eBay.

è Advantage over wholesalers: Another interesting feature to note is that wholesalers do not flood this market as they do with other items. Companies have to pay for the people they employ, overhead costs, among other expenditures so as to sell these items. Buying them and then simply selling them online is a sure way of making a profit.

è Safety test: When purchasing used electrical goods, make sure that the item has undergone an electrical safety test. The results of this should be recorded into a PAT (portable appliance test) log book, and a PAT sticker should be attached to the item.

Video games:

è Disclaimer policy: If you are interested in selling video games, make sure to offer a no-quibble return policy. Because you are selling older games and testing them can be quite a tiresome task, it is recommended that you list them as “untested.” You should also offer a money-back policy if the game is defective. However, keep in mind that, if you make such an offer, it only creates a doubt in the buyers’ minds that the product might be faulty.

è Purchase a disc repair machine: When purchasing a game that is on a CD, be sure to check for scratches. If there are too many scratches, check the CDs. Investing in a disc repair machine is a good idea as it will remove all the superficial scratches as well as the deep scratches. However, if it is on a cartridge and there is some damage, do mention it.

Media:

Selling media, such as books, software, DVDs, and CDs, among others, on eBay can be a tricky business. You should keep in mind the following:

è Never Sell Media That You Have Burned Or Copied Yourself: Selling media that you have created yourself, whether it is copied from the Internet or off the airwaves, cannot be sold on this site. In fact, such an activity is illegal and can get you banned from eBay. EBay will first suspend you and later ask questions. Even if the media is yours, you will not be allowed to sell it on eBay.

è Specify Media Compatibility: It is important that you mention the compatibility of a particular form of media that you are selling. For instance, if it is a book, specify its language and print size; if it is a CD, mention whether it is factory made from master or burned; if it is a DVD, specify the place from where you purchased it and its standard (VCD, DVD, SVCD, HD-DVD, Blu-Ray, among others); if it is a vinyl record, mention its size and rotation speed; and if it is a magnetic tape or disk, specify if it is VHS, cassette, microcassette, or diskette.

Antiques And Vintage Items:

Selling used antiques and vintage items is another way of making an income on eBay. There are a number of advantages selling such items.

è Interest Of Buyers: Buyers are aware that they can purchase new goods on certain websites. However, what they are especially looking for is unusual, antique, and rare items.

è Rarity: Vintage or antiques are those items that are scarcely supplied as compared to other used items. So, those who have an interest for collecting antiques are sure to visit your shop.

è Best Price: If something is not easily available, then you can very well demand a good price for it, sometimes even an amount that is out of proportion to its true, basic value. This can bring in huge profits for you.

è Easy To Source: There are huge amounts of junk items that are in the world, and some of it can still be sold. If you live in the same town or city, it is easy to source these items.

è Affordability Of Stock: If you go to purchase junk from those who want to clear their attics, garages, or basements, they are willing to sell it for a song. So, if you have a place to store it, you can get it dirt cheap.

è Selling For A Third Party: If there are certain antiques that you yourself don’t want to purchase but can sell on the owner’s behalf, you are sure to get your cut, without having to stock the item.

è Take Photos: It is a good idea to take quality photographs of your antique items. If you are a third-party seller, you can take pictures of those items, post advertisements of them on eBay, and take a commission for selling the item.

          ]]>

è Profitability: Buyers who are interested in antiques and vintage items are willing to pay a huge amount. So, there are high chances of you making a profit from selling such items.

è Low Turnover: Selling new items, like electronic products and apparel, is a high turnover business, which is dependent on the fluctuation in market prices as well as changing fashions. Antiques and vintage items do not depend on these factors. They can remain listed until they are bought.

Sporting Goods:

Selling used sporting goods is also a sure way of bringing in income. If you want to get rid of your old sports equipment, putting it up for auction on eBay is a good idea. There are loads of sporting goods that are sold on this site and for a good price. Some of the goods that go for sale are:

è Baseball Equipment: Bats, gloves, jerseys, hitting machines, hats, batting helmets, and baseballs, among others are always in demand. Not just that, training aids, like speed sensors, batting cages, videos, and books, are also sold.

è Basketball Equipment: Those who are interested in basketball search for the perfect basketball system to perfect their game. From various systems like in-ground pole, portable, and wall-mount, to different styles of basketballs, footwear, jerseys, and arm warmers, among other items are always in demand and can be sold on eBay.

è Camping Gear: If you are planning a camping trip with your family or friends and don’t want to spend too much on purchasing new camping gear, you can choose eBay to get the best deals. Used camping stoves, backpacks, tents, sleeping bags, first aid, and water filtration kits are sold on this site.

è Cycles: Cycles of all types can be sold on eBay, from mountain bikes, comfort bikes, kid bikes, and road racing bikes to BMX bikes, low-rider bikes, and vintage bikes, among others.

è Fitness Equipment: From free-weight equipment, like barbells and dumbbells to manual and electric treadmills to trampolines and exercise bikes, all can be sold for a good price on eBay.

è Golf Equipment: Buyers are usually searching for individual golf clubs or sets of 12, besides drivers, fairways woods, and clubs for left-handed players.

è Other Sports Equipment: There are always buyers of sports equipment searching for the best deals online. From football, soccer, tennis, bowling, and fishing goods to racquetball, skateboarding, surfing, and hockey, among other popular sporting goods, you can sell these for a huge profit.

When selling sporting goods online, you need to ensure that you use the correct term to describe what you are selling. The terms that you should use are:

è New In Box (NIB): Items that are in their original packaging from the time they have been purchased and have not been opened or used fall under this listing.

è New With Tags (NWT) or New Without Tags (NWOT) or Never Been Worn (NBW): As the name describes, equipment and accessories that have never been worn or washed can come under NBW; those that still have the retail tags fall under NWT; and those that have the tags removed but have never been worn can be listed under NWOT. Those items that come under these listings should have no flaws.

è Gently Used (GU): Those items that appear new and have no flaws in spite of having been washed, worn, or used fall under this listing.

è Excellent: Those items that have been used but have no signs of flaws can be placed under this listing.

è Very Good: The items that have been used, are faded in moderation, yet have no visible flaws can be considered as items in very good condition.

è Good: Items that have previously been worn, are significantly faded, and have minor visible flaws are considered to be in good condition.

è Fair: Products that have been previously worn, have significant flaws, and are faded considerably are considered to be in fair condition.

è Poor: Items that are not in a condition to be worn or used with severe flaws, but may have certain desirable elements, can fall under this category.

Note that stains, spots, tears, holes, problems with buttons, zips, and snaps, and fabric irregularities are considered as flaws.

Hobby items:

Selling items of your hobby is another way of making an income online. Equipment for hobbies like gardening and fishing can be sold for a good price on eBay. There are a few things that you need to keep in mind when selling a hobby item online:

è Know Your Hobby: When you’re selling an item, you should ensure that you know everything about the hobby. This will help you to generate sales as you will be able to convince fellow enthusiasts to purchase your product.

è Name The Hobby: With every opportunity you get, make sure that you name the hobby, whether it is in one-off listing titles, your member ID, or your eBay store name. This is essential for buyers when searching as well as for purposes of remembering your item.

è Give Details: Hobbyists are experts in their areas of interest. So, you need to ensure that you give detailed descriptions of the items that you are selling. Information, like the make, features, model, and condition details, are important for an enthusiast of that particular hobby. What’s more, if anyone famous endorses the product that you are selling, it would be an added advantage to mention it.

è Take Photos: Taking photographs of the actual item from different angles is important as buyers want to know what they are purchasing. Hobbyists especially are looking for items of quality. If your picture depicts this, you are sure to make the sale.

è Make It Your Business: If you can consistently supply quality used items of your hobby on eBay, you are sure to gain a market. Buyers will not search elsewhere for the items. So, in time, you will create a strong customer base.

è Update “About Me” And Ebay Blogs: If you are eager to make selling your hobby items your business, it is recommended that you constantly update the “About me” page as well as eBay blogs. This will slowly build a customer’s trust in you. Buyers will be happy to have gained a supplier who shares the same interests.

è Include Marketing Value-Adds: Getting free equipment related to your hobby is something hobbyists look forward to. This is also a way to create your customer base.

Apparel:

Clothing is one of the most-sold items on eBay. When selling your used clothing, you need to keep in mind the following:

è Give Proper Descriptions: When it comes to clothing, ensure to mention the size, fabric, and brand, among other details. You need to be honest about the condition of the apparel that you are selling, so as to make sure that the customer you are selling to is not disappointed.

è Pack Properly: Shipping of clothes is important. If you use a loosely-sealed, paper envelope for packaging, the item is sure to get damaged in transit. Sealing the item properly ensures that there is no contamination by the shipping environment.

Furniture:

è Huge Shipping Costs: Selling used furniture is fine, but you need to keep in mind that furniture is big, and so the shipping costs will be greater. Remember, the bigger the furniture, the more the cost of shipping, and in turn, there are less chances of the furniture being sold. So, if the furniture is too large, it is better not to choose eBay as a place for selling it.

è Give Details: One of the marketing techniques you can employ is giving details about:

Workmanship: Describe the materials that are used to make it. For instance, is it made of solid oak, teakwood, glass, stainless steel, iron, polyvinyl, or marble?
Size: Mentioning the height, width, and depth is important as the buyer would like to know if the piece of furniture he or she is about to purchase will fit in his or her accommodation.
Modification or flaws: It is always better to mention if you have made any modifications or if there are any flaws. This will ensure that you do not have an angry buyer.

è Get Experts To Pack For Shipment: Owing to the size of the item, it is recommended that you hire help for shipment. Let the professionals take care of packaging the item as this will guarantee that the furniture is intact and there are no damages.

Vehicles:

Selling your vehicle on eBay can be easy if you employ marketing strategies, like giving detailed descriptions, and taking photographs of the vehicle from both inside and outside. However, there are certain other issues that you should consider.

è Take Care Of Any Legal Loose Ends: If you are selling your motor vehicle, you need to make sure that you have a copy of the title and that it is free from all kinds of legal entanglements. If the vehicle you are selling is of an old model, ensure that it is in running condition and the registration and any other applicable fees and taxes are paid for in your state. This assures the buyers that the vehicle is in good operating condition.

è Have A Sales Receipt Ready: Before selling online, it is recommended that you ask your local motor vehicles division for the basic requirements that allow you to sell your vehicle. You need to ask for necessary documentation, one copy which will be given to the buyer and the other which you will keep.

è Contact And Test-Drive Information: Unlike other products sold on eBay, a vehicle needs to be test-driven. A buyer will surely not purchase a vehicle without physically inspecting it. So, be sure to mention the address at which the vehicle is stationed for inspection.

è Shipping Complications: When purchasing a vehicle, the buyer has the option of either “pick up,” “drive away,” or have the seller ship it. You need to specifically mention what shipping options you are offering.

Are you an eBay seller? If you are, your goal is probably to make as much money as you can by selling products on eBay. Unfortunately, there are now thousands, if not millions, of individuals who are doing the same thing.

This is a lot of competition!

However, even with competition, you should still be able to make a profit when using eBay, particularly if you can devote a little time to extra marketing of your listings. What do we mean by marketing your listings?

Simply listing your items on eBay is enough to get those eBay items exposure within the eBay marketplace. But you may want to think about taking it a step farther. There are a number of different ways that you can go about extra marketing of your eBay items without having to spend any money.

One of the best ways to market your eBay items is by joining the eBay Community Discussion Boards – or Discussion Forums as they call it on ebay.com. When you talk with other eBay Community members your eBay ID is displayed whether you start a discussion topic or respond to an ongoing discussion.

          ]]>

On ebay.co.uk, there’s a View Items link alongside the person’s eBay ID which takes you straight to the listings of the person who’s entry you’re reading on the Discussion Board. With ebay.com, you click on the eBay ID which takes you to that person’s MyWorld page, which contains a link to their listings.

If you contribute to the eBay Boards or Forums you will find it is not uncommon for other members to click through to your listings. This may be out of curiosity, but if your entry is really interesting, helpful, or both, you will get a number of eBay members viewing your listings.

Another relatively easy way to get extra exposure is to contribute to forums outside of eBay. There are forums and message boards on just about any subject you can imagine. If you locate a forum which is connected to the type of products you offer on eBay, you can contribute to the discussions on that forum. The benefit is that most forums allow members to have a signature attached to their forum comment and which can contain a live link. This live link can be, for example, to your eBay Store/Shop, to an individual category page of your Store/Shop or to an individual listing page.

Here are a couple of directories of forums to get you started:

http://www.big-boards.com/ – shows those forums with the most numbers of members

http://www.theforumfinder.org/ – probably the biggest directory of forums

Another very simple way to promote your other eBay items is by including a “please checkout my other eBay listings” link on all your item description pages. As with the marketing tactics mentioned above, this is easy to do and is free.

You have probably heard of the online auction site eBay, “The World’s Online Market Place”. People from all over the world buy and sell items through eBay’s online auctions and through eBay stores. There are people who sell on eBay as a hobby, making the occasional dollar, and there are others who make a very good full time living by selling on eBay.

You see, the biggest problem for most internet marketers is getting visitors to their site. If they get more visitors they sell more products. But with billions of page views a month, eBay already has the visitors. With eBay the internet marketer doesn’t need to worry about getting visitors. Just about all she needs to do is put products up for sale.

So what does eBay have to do with travel? eBay can make it possible for you to travel the world while making a killer income, anywhere in the world that has an internet connection. Make eBay your part-time or full-time job and travel anywhere you want. No bosses. Work your own hours. Make thousands of dollars weekly. Travel the world. All you’ll need to do is buy rare and unusual items while traveling and put them up for auction on eBay.

How can you get started on eBay and make a good living while traveling? First off, register with eBay http://www.ebay.com as a seller. eBay will take you through all the simple steps. It also has a lot of useful tips on buying and selling, so take a look around. Next, you’ll want to sign up for a PayPal http://www.paypal.com account. With PayPal you’ll be able to accept payments instantly, which will go into your online PayPal account. Then you can transfer money from your PayPal account to your regular bank account to withdraw funds. If you wish to accept payments through something other than PayPal look up the eBay rules under the help section.

A big key to selling on eBay is high quality photographs. So get yourself a good digital camera.

          ]]>

Take pictures of things in your home and put up a test auction on eBay’s “auction test” listings to see how everything looks. At this point don’t worry about selling, you just want to test the waters to get everything running smoothly. Also, scan eBay listings to see how other people sell their items, and research which items sell, to improve your own listings.

Once you are familiar with putting auction listings up on eBay on their auction testing pages you will want to focus on getting at least 10 positive feedback reviews. These reviews are what buyers leave sellers on eBay for all eBayers to see. (Sellers can only leave positive feedback for buyers, unfortunately they cannot leave negatives or neutrals anymore). If you have a lot of negatives no one will buy from you. But if you have a lot of positives people will be much more likely to buy from you. So treat your customers well to get those positive feedbacks!

eBay also has a star rating system where buyers can leave sellers up to five stars in these four categories: item as described, communication, shipping time and shipping and handling charges.

An easy way to build positives fast is to buy inexpensive items on eBay. These are a quick way of building up your reputation.

Or you could list several products that you can sell for $0.99. This will generate a lot of page views to your items, and a lot of sales. It will also generate a lot of feedback reviews for you. Once you have 20 positives you can then sell on Dutch Auctions (useful for when you have more than one of the same item for sale) and you can sell items in Feature Auctions. Feature Auctions are the key to making a lot of money on eBay as they generally sell well and can get you extra traffic to your other auctions. With 20 positive feedbacks you’ll also be able to open up your eBay Store which allows you to list items in a non-auction format at cheaper listing fees.

You could sell 40 Feature Auction items a week for a $20 profit each. That’s $800 a week, $3,200 a month. If you want to make more money, up your profit margin or put up more listings. Just 100 listings a week could easily make you $2,000 a week or more.

You could opt to be a low-volume seller for more travel flexibility as you won’t need to have a large inventory. Where high-volume sellers generally sell lots of items for lower profit margins, low-volume sellers sell a few items at higher profit margins.

The key to selling on eBay is to sell items at bargain prices, sell rare and unique items, or to sell unique items at bargain prices. These types of products are easily found while traveling. Imagine what you could buy at a market in India. Unique items at bargain prices. Then turn around and sell them for a nice profit on eBay. (For example: a gemstone could be bought in a cheaper country for a fraction of what it is worth in other countries. You then sell it on eBay for less than the retail value in your target country, but at a hefty profit for yourself).

With internet cafes popping up all over the world you won’t even need to bring your computer along with you on your trips. Just buy a unique item and take some good pictures. Go into an internet cafe, download the pics and put up your listing on eBay. When the item sells send it off to the buyer. Money will be put into your PayPal account which will fund your travels.

Selling on eBay to make a living while traveling is something different, but it works. Imagine traveling to exotic destinations with no bosses and no time schedules. Freedom. And all you have to do is buy souvenirs to sell them on eBay!

There are several other auction sites on the internet besides eBay.

If you sell several of the same item you could list it on several different auction sites for more exposure. You don’t need to stop at eBay. The more listings you have up, on as many sites as you can, the more visitors you’ll receive and the more money you’ll make.

Be careful with seller fees though. You want to put up items that sell. If you don’t sell you’ll end up paying eBay listing fees without making a profit. Find the successes on these auction sites and emulate them.

Use online auctions to make some extra cash or as a full-time business. With the right strategy you could make a lot of money from virtually anywhere in the world.
